Sindou

Cascades, Burkina Faso

Why visit Sindou?

Sindou is a small town west of Banfora, best known for the Sindou Peaks (Pics de Sindou), a spectacular geological formation of eroded limestone pinnacles, towers, and canyons. The town is the capital of Léraba Province and sits in a valley surrounded by wooded savanna and rocky outcrops. The population is predominantly Karaboro and Senufo.

The Sindou Peaks are the town's defining feature and the region's second most important tourist attraction after the Banfora waterfalls. The limestone formations, shaped by millennia of erosion, rise up to 30 metres and create a dramatic, almost alien landscape. The area is also a good base for exploring Senufo villages and traditional salt production sites.

How do you get there?

By Car / Road

Sindou is about 45 km west of Banfora on a paved road (RN8). Bush taxis run from Banfora (about 1000–1500 CFA, 1 hour). From Bobo-Dioulasso, take the RN7 south to Banfora, then the RN8 west to Sindou (total about 130 km, 2.5 hours).

Sindou itself is small and walkable. To explore the Sindou Peaks, hire a local guide (available near the peak entrance). Motorcycle taxis can be arranged for excursions to nearby villages.
