Why visit Aksakovo?

Aksakovo is a town in Varna Province, northeastern Bulgaria, on the Franga Plateau about 3 km northwest of the city of Varna. It is the administrative centre of Aksakovo Municipality, which comprises 23 settlements and had a combined population of about 19,500 as of December 2022; the town itself is home to roughly 7,000 people. As a village it was first mentioned in the late 17th century under the name Adjemler. On 14 August 1934 it was renamed Aksakovo, after the Russian publicist and Pan-Slavist Ivan Aksakov, who supported Bulgaria's liberation from Ottoman rule. It was formally declared a town on 27 May 2004.
