About Bratsigovo

Bratsigovo is a town in the foothills of the Rhodope Mountains, on the banks of the Umishka River in Pazardzhik Province. It was founded by Bulgarian emigrants from Aegean Macedonia (the Kostur/Kastoria region) in the 16th–17th century on the ruins of an earlier settlement. The town took an active part in the April Uprising of 1876. Bratsigovo is being developed as a balneological centre, with a cold mineral water spring (18–26 °C) and a balneo-sanatorium. The St John the Precursor Church has the tallest Eastern Orthodox bell-tower in the Balkans.
