The North East District is one of Botswana's smallest districts, located in the eastern part of the country bordering Zimbabwe. It is the traditional home of the Kalanga (BaKalanga) people, who have a distinct language and cultural identity within Botswana. The district's landscape consists of acacia savanna, low rocky hills, and seasonal river valleys. The administrative centre is Masunga, while the area is also known for the Tuli Block — a strip of private game reserves and farms along the Limpopo River. The North East District is less visited than Botswana's major safari destinations but offers a quieter, more authentic experience of the country's eastern borderlands.
When to Visit
The dry winter months (May–August) are the most comfortable time to visit, with mild temperatures and clear skies. Summer (October–March) is hot with afternoon thunderstorms. Wildlife viewing in the Tuli Block is best during the dry season.

WhatsAppGetting Around
The North East District is served by paved roads connecting Masunga to Francistown, with unpaved roads branching to smaller villages. A 4x4 is recommended for reaching the Tuli Block reserves and the more remote areas. Minibus taxis connect the main villages.
