Khudumelapye

Kweneng, Botswana

Why visit Khudumelapye?

Khudumelapye (also spelled Kudumelapye) is a village in the western part of the Kweneng District of Botswana, about 30 km north-west of Letlhakeng, on the edge of the Kalahari. The population was 1,837 at the 2001 census. Kweneng District is the historic homeland of the Bakwena people — the first Batswana group converted to Christianity, by the missionary David Livingstone in the 19th century — and Khudumelapye is a rural settlement within that territory, with residents engaged in livestock farming and cattle-post life. The village has minimal infrastructure and sits among the westernmost settlements in Kweneng before the true Kalahari wilderness begins.
