Satau

Satau is a small village in the Chobe District of northern Botswana, situated near the Namibian border west of Kasane. The settlement lies within the Chobe River catchment area, surrounded by mopane savanna and seasonal floodplains. Satau is a rural community whose residents are primarily engaged in subsistence farming and livestock rearing. The village is off the main tourist route, with no dedicated visitor infrastructure.

The nearest airport is Kasane International Airport (BBK), approximately 90 km east. Charter flights can serve nearby airstrips in the Linyanti region.

Satau is accessible via unpaved roads branching west from the Kasane–Katima Mulilo highway. A 4x4 vehicle is essential. Driving time from Kasane is about 1.5–2 hours.

The village is compact and walkable. A private vehicle is needed for travel to Kasane or Namibia.

Satau has no organised tourist activities. Chobe National Park and the Linyanti Marsh, both accessible by 4x4 from the village, are the main wildlife-viewing areas in the region.

There are no restaurants in Satau. Self-catering is necessary; bring all food provisions from Kasane.

There are no bars or cafés. Stock up on bottled water and beverages in Kasane before travelling to the area.

Satau has no tourist accommodation. Kasane or safari lodges in the Linyanti region are the nearest options offering camping to luxury accommodation.

There are no formal shops in Satau. Kasane, approximately 90 km east, has supermarkets (Shoprite, Choppies) and ATMs.
