About Kavimba

Kavimba is a rural village in the Chobe District of northern Botswana, located west of Kasane in the Chobe River floodplain. The area is characterised by seasonal wetlands, acacia and mopane woodlands, and small-scale farming. Kavimba lies close to the Namibian border and the Linyanti wetlands, an extension of the Okavango Delta system. The village has a small population and limited tourism facilities.

How to reach

By Plane

Kasane International Airport (BBK) is approximately 75 km east. Charter flights can also access airstrips in the Linyanti/Savuti region.

By Train

By Car / Road

Kavimba is accessible via unpaved roads from the Kasane–Katima Mulilo route. A 4x4 vehicle is strongly recommended, especially in the rainy season. Driving time from Kasane is about 1.5 hours.

The village is small and walkable. A private vehicle is required for travel to surrounding areas.

  • Chobe River floodplain — Seasonal wetlands that attract migratory birds and occasional wildlife.
  • Linyanti wetlands — Further west, part of the greater Okavango system, known for its rich birdlife and game viewing.

Kavimba has no organised tourist activities. The Linyanti and Savuti regions, a short drive west, offer game drives, guided walks, and birdwatching.
