About Prijedor

Prijedor (Приједор) is a city in the northwestern part of Republika Srpska, in the Bosanska Krajina region, about 50 km west of Banja Luka. With a population of about 27,000 in the urban area and 80,000 in the municipality, it is one of the larger cities in the entity. Prijedor is notable for being one of the few truly multi-ethnic towns in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with a population that includes Bosniaks, Croats, and Serbs living together after the difficult experiences of the Bosnian War.

The city is situated on the Sana River, surrounded by fertile farmland and forested hills. Prijedor has a well-developed industrial base including metalworking, wood processing, and food production. The climate is continental with warm summers (25–30°C) and cold winters. The best time to visit is from May to September.

How to reach

By Plane

Banja Luka International Airport (BNX, IATA) is about 60 km east, approximately 1 hour by car or taxi (about 80–100 KM).

By Train

Prijedor lies on the Zagreb–Sarajevo railway line, with daily trains connecting the city to both capitals. The railway station is in the town centre.

By Car / Road

Prijedor is on the M-4 road connecting Banja Luka (50 km east) with Novi Grad (40 km west). There is a daily direct bus from Dubrovnik, over Split and Makarska. Buses also run from Banja Luka (1 hour), Sarajevo (4 hours), and Zagreb, Croatia.

Prijedor is a walkable city, particularly the centre along the Sana River. Local buses serve the suburbs. Taxis are affordable and available.
