About Konjic
Konjic is a picturesque town in northern Herzegovina, set along the emerald-green Neretva River at the foot of the Bjelašnica and Visočica mountains. Its most famous landmark is the Stara Ćuprija (Old Bridge), a 17th-century Ottoman stone bridge with six arches that gracefully spans the Neretva. The town has a rich history as a trading post on the road between Sarajevo and the Adriatic coast. Konjic is also home to one of the Cold War's most intriguing relics: the ARK (Atomic War Shelter), a massive underground bunker built for Tito and his military command, now an art gallery.
The climate is continental with Mediterranean influences: summers are warm to hot (25–30°C) and winters are cold (0–5°C). The Neretva River is the lifeblood of the town, providing swimming, fishing, and rafting opportunities. The old town, on the right bank, is a maze of cobbled alleys, Ottoman houses, and craft workshops.
