About Rangjung

Rangjung is a small town in Trashigang district, eastern Bhutan, located on the road between Trashigang and Samdrup Jongkhar. The town is known for Rangjung Woesel Choeling Monastery, one of the most important monasteries in eastern Bhutan, belonging to the Karma Kagyu tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. The monastery is a centre for Buddhist studies and attracts pilgrims from across the region.

Rangjung sits in a fertile valley with a subtropical climate. The surrounding area is agricultural, with rice paddies and citrus orchards. The town is a convenient stop for travellers heading south toward Samdrup Jongkhar or the Indian border.

Rangjung is about 1 hour south of Trashigang town on a paved road. Buses and taxis run on this route.
