About Cobly

Cobly is a town and commune in northwestern Benin, lying near the Togolese border in the Atakora Department. The commune covers 852 km² with a population of about 80,000, composed mainly of Berba people alongside Betammaribè, Gourmantché, Peulh, Dendi, and Yoruba communities. Cobly's landscape alternates between mountain chains (some reaching 472 m) and wooded savannah. The area is known for its sacred forests (Yonnakpiti and Datori), the Yimpognanmou mountain (site of colonial-era resistance), and a traditional fish pond with cowrie shells. A night-time curfew (21:00–06:00) has been in place in parts of Cobly for security reasons; check the current situation before planning a visit.
