Disna

Viciebskaja voblasć, Belarus

Why visit Disna?

Disna (Дзісна) is a small historic town of about 1,600 people in Viciebskaja voblasć, one of the smallest towns in Belarus by population. Located at the confluence of the Daugava and Disna Rivers, it was first mentioned in the 15th century and was an important fortress during the Livonian War. Disna has a remarkable history relative to its tiny size — it once had 14 churches and a large Jewish population. Today it's a quiet, slightly melancholic backwater with several 19th-century buildings and a palpable sense of history. The climate is continental: warm summers (17–23°C) and cold winters (−5 to −10°C).
