About Slutsk
Slutsk (Слуцк) is one of Belarus's oldest and most culture-rich small cities, with about 62,000 inhabitants in Minskaja voblasć. First mentioned in 1116, Slutsk was the capital of the Slutsk Principality and an important centre of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. It is world-famous for the Slutsk Sash (Слуцкі пояс), a handwoven silk belt worn by Polish–Lithuanian nobility — a national treasure of Belarus. The city's historic centre includes a magnificent Baroque monastery complex, 18th-century merchant houses, and the remnants of its medieval fortifications. Slutsk has a lively atmosphere with a strong sense of heritage. The climate is continental: warm summers (18–24°C) and cold winters (−4 to −10°C).
