About Satkhira

Satkhira is a district town in the southern part of Khulna Division, near the border with West Bengal, India. Situated on the banks of the Kholpetua River in the active delta of the Ganges, the area is characterised by rivers, canals, and brackish-water shrimp farming (bagda). The town is a trading centre for shrimp, rice, and jute. It is also one of the gateways to the Sundarbans mangrove forest.

The climate is tropical monsoon: hot and humid March–October, cooler November–February.

The nearest airport is Jessore Airport (JSR), about 70 km north.

Satkhira is connected to Khulna by bus (2 hours) and to Dhaka by bus via the Padma Bridge (6–7 hours).
