Saar
Ash Shamālīyah, Bahrain
Why visit Saar?
Saar is an upmarket residential suburb in the Northern Governorate of Bahrain, located along the Budaiya Highway approximately 15 km west of central Manama. It has developed rapidly in recent decades into one of Bahrain's most desirable residential areas, characterised by large villas, landscaped streets, and modern amenities. The suburb is popular with affluent Bahrainis and expatriate professionals working in the financial sector.
Despite its modern character, Saar is also home to an important archaeological site — the Saar Archaeological Mound, a Dilmun-era settlement dating to approximately 2000 BCE. This juxtaposition of ancient history and contemporary suburban life gives Saar a unique character. The suburb has a range of restaurants, cafés, and retail outlets catering to its well-heeled residents, making it a convenient place to stay for visitors who prefer a residential environment over the hotel districts of Manama and Juffair.
