Qaradagli

Qaradagli is a small village in the Ucar District of central Azerbaijan, located on the agricultural plain of the Shirvan region. The name "Qaradagli" translates to "those from the black mountain" in Azerbaijani. The village economy is based on traditional farming, with cotton, grains, and vegetables as the main crops. It is one of many modest rural settlements that characterise the landscape of central Azerbaijan.

The climate is semi-arid, with hot summers of 30–35°C and mild winters around 0–5°C. The best visiting periods are spring and autumn, when temperatures are moderate and the farmlands are active.

Qaradagli is a quiet, traditional village with no tourist facilities. It offers a straightforward look at rural Azerbaijani life in the Shirvan plain.

The nearest major airport is Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD) in Baku, about 260 km east (3.5 hours by car). Ganja International Airport (GNJ) is about 210 km west.

Qaradagli is about 25 km south of Ujar town, reached via local roads off the M2 highway. The final approach is on a narrow paved road. A taxi from Ujar costs around 15–20 AZN.

The village is small enough to walk. A hired taxi from Ujar is the best option for getting around the district.

• Irrigation canals – the network of Soviet-era irrigation channels that water the surrounding farmland.

• Rural walks – explore the farm roads and paths between Qaradagli and neighbouring villages.

• Visit Ujar – the district centre, 25 km north, with a history museum, bazaar, and cafés.

Tea is the standard village drink. Bring bottled water from Ujar.

• Ujar (25 km north, 25 min) – district centre with history museum, park, and dining.
• Goychay (55 km north, 50 min) – the cherry-growing capital of Azerbaijan.
• Mingachevir (100 km north-west, 1.5 h) – a city on the Kura River with a large reservoir.
