Hovuzlu

Hovuzlu is a small village in the Tovuz District of western Azerbaijan, located on the fertile plain between the Lesser Caucasus and the Kura River. The name "Hovuzlu" derives from the Azerbaijani word for "pool" or "pond," likely referring to a local water feature. The village has traditionally been an agricultural settlement, with residents growing grains, cotton, and fruit, and raising livestock.

The climate is mild continental with warm summers (25–30°C) and cool winters (0–5°C). Spring and autumn are the most comfortable times for a visit.

Hovuzlu is a quiet rural village with no tourist infrastructure. It offers a peaceful glimpse into traditional Azerbaijani countryside life and serves as a stop for those touring the Tovuz region.

The nearest major airport is Ganja International Airport (GNJ), approximately 60 km east. A taxi from Ganja costs 50–70 AZN and takes about 45 minutes.

Hovuzlu is located a short distance south of Tovuz town, accessible via local roads. The drive from Tovuz takes about 15–20 minutes. From Ganja, take the M2 highway west to Tovuz, then follow local roads south. Marshrutkas connect Baku and Ganja with Tovuz; from Tovuz, arrange a taxi onward.

The village is small and walkable. A hired taxi from Tovuz is the most practical way to visit the surrounding area.

• Hovuzlu countryside – the farmlands surrounding the village are characteristic of the Tovuz agricultural region.

• Irrigation ponds – the "pools" that may give the village its name are visible in the surrounding fields.

• Walking – the quiet village lanes are suitable for relaxed walks through the agricultural landscape.

• Visit Tovuz – the district centre, a short drive north, has a history museum, park, and local market.

Tea is the standard refreshment. Bring bottled water from Tovuz, as tap water is not safe for drinking.
