Sahlabad

Sahlabad is a small village in the Tərtər District of Azerbaijan, situated in the lowland plains near the Tartar River. Its history follows that of the broader region — a quiet agricultural settlement that grew modestly during the Soviet period when collective farming was the main economic activity. The village remains primarily rural, with local livelihoods centred on small-scale farming and livestock.

The climate is characterised by hot summers reaching 25–30°C and mild winters around 0–5°C. Spring rains bring green fields and wildflowers, while autumn harvest season offers a pleasant time to visit. Summer is hot but dry, winter is cold but generally sunny.

Sahlabad is a tiny, quiet place with little infrastructure for visitors. It appeals to those wanting to experience authentic rural Azerbaijan away from any tourist trail.

The nearest airport is Ganja International Airport (GNJ), approximately 110 km west. A taxi from Ganja to Sahlabad costs 70–90 AZN and takes about 1.5 hours.

Sahlabad is a short drive from Tərtər town (the district centre), located about 10 km to the north-east. The road from Tərtər is asphalted but narrow. Marshrutkas run from Baku and Ganja to Tərtər; from there a taxi to Sahlabad costs around 10–15 AZN.

The village is small and easily walked end to end. There is no local public transport. A private vehicle or hired taxi is essential for exploring the surrounding area.

• Tartar River – the watercourse passes near the village, providing a scenic natural setting.

• Agricultural landscape – the fields around Sahlabad are typical of the rural Azerbaijani plain, with seasonal crops and grazing livestock.

• Countryside walks – the quiet rural lanes are suitable for relaxed walking, especially in the mild spring and autumn months.

• Visit Tərtər town – 10 km away, the district capital has basic shops, a history museum, and transport connections.

• Home-style cooking – Sahlabad has no restaurants. Meals may be possible at a private home if arranged through a local contact. Traditional dishes include qutab, plov, and fresh yogurt.
• Tərtər cafés – the nearest place to eat out is in Tərtər town.

Tea is offered in any home. Bottled water should be brought from Tərtər — tap water is not safe.
