Why visit Halls Gap?

Halls Gap is a small township in western Victoria, situated 250 kilometers (3 hours by car) west of Melbourne. Located in the Fyans Valley, it acts as the primary base for exploring Grampians National Park (known natively as Gariwerd). Visitors come here to access sandstone ridges, rock climbing crags, waterfalls, and extensive mountain walking tracks.

The town layout centers on Grampians Road, lined with a small collection of cafes, bakeries, outdoor stores, and accommodation options. Eastern grey kangaroos, wallabies, and emus feed regularly on the central recreation oval and lawns around town. The area forms part of the traditional lands of the Djab Wurrung and Jardwadjali peoples, containing over 80 percent of all known Aboriginal rock art sites in Victoria.

Seasonal weather patterns dictate activity in the valley. Spring brings blooming wildflowers and moderate walking temperatures. Summer brings hot weather often reaching above 35°C (95°F), along with high bushfire risk that can trigger sudden park closures. Winter brings cold days with regular rainfall that feeds the local waterfalls.
