Batemans Bay
New South Wales, Australia
Why visit Batemans Bay?
With a population of around 16,000, Batemans Bay sits where the Clyde River meets the sea, surrounded by the many beaches of the Eurobodalla. Its proximity to Canberra — the closest surf to the inland capital — has shaped the town, which fills with Canberrans every summer and on long weekends. Many residents are retirees, though the area increasingly attracts younger families drawn by relatively affordable homes near the sea.
The town is known for its seafood, especially Clyde River oysters, its string of beaches stretching north and south, and its setting between the river, the ocean and the national parks of the South Coast. It makes an excellent base for exploring the wider Eurobodalla, with its quieter villages and pristine coastline.
The climate is mild and coastal, warmest and busiest over the summer holidays; spring and autumn are pleasant and quieter. The town can be very crowded during the Christmas–January peak and on Canberra long weekends.

It is the northern gateway to the Eurobodalla coast, with the Princes Highway continuing south through the coastal towns. Coach services run along the Princes and Kings Highway corridors.
