Sisian is a town of about 14,000 in northern Syunik' Province, known for the nearby Zorats Karer (Carahunge) — a prehistoric stone circle sometimes called the "Armenian Stonehenge." The town is set on a high plateau with wide views.

Yerevan's Zvartnots International (EVN) is about 200 km north.

By Train

There is no train service to Sisian.

By Car / Road

Sisian is on the M2 highway, 200 km from Yerevan (about 3.5 hours).

By Bus / Minibus

Minibuses from Yerevan to Goris/Kapan pass through Sisian.

By Taxi

A taxi from Yerevan costs around 20,000–25,000 dram.

The town is walkable. Zorats Karer is 3 km south (taxi or walk).

Things to do

  • Zorats Karer (Carahunge) — a prehistoric stone circle with standing stones, some with holes drilled through them. Dating to the 2nd millennium BC, it may have been an astronomical observatory.
  • Sisian town centre — a modest market town.
  • Shaki Waterfall — a scenic waterfall near Sisian.

Visit Zorats Karer and walk among the standing stones. The site takes 1–2 hours. The waterfall is a short drive.
