Fontaneda

Sant Julia de Loria, Andorra

About Fontaneda

Fontaneda is a small mountain hamlet in Sant Julià de Lòria parish, Andorra, set on a south-facing slope at about 1,500 m, ~10 km west of Sant Julià town up a narrow road from Bixessarri. It is one of the parish's most remote quarts, with a permanent population in the low dozens, and consists of a handful of traditional stone-and-slate houses around a small medieval-origin chapel.

The hamlet is essentially a working agricultural village with no resort infrastructure; visitors come for its high-altitude rural character, the views over the southern part of the country, and access to the Canòlich sanctuary further up the same side of the valley. The road continues beyond Fontaneda only as a forestry / agricultural track.

Best time to visit: May–October for the green-season walking; mild winters allow visits but the road can be icy.
