About Aixas
Aixas (sometimes spelled Aixàs) is a tiny, peaceful mountain hamlet located in the parish of Sant Julià de Lòria, Andorra. Perched on a steep hillside in the western part of the parish at an elevation of approximately 1,500 meters, it offers a stark contrast to the busy commercial zones of the main valley. The village features traditional stone-and-slate architecture (known as borda houses) and has a permanent population of fewer than twenty residents, making it one of the most secluded settlements in Andorra.
Visitors are drawn to Aixas for its serene, rustic atmosphere, stunning panoramic views of the surrounding Pyrenean peaks, and access to pristine hiking trails. The village has preserved its rural charm, with narrow lanes winding past historical agricultural buildings. It provides a perfect escape for those looking to experience the quiet, traditional side of Andorran mountain life.
The climate is alpine, with warm, pleasant summers and cold, snowy winters. Due to its high altitude, temperatures are significantly cooler than in the valley floor of Sant Julià de Lòria. The best time to visit is from June to October, when the roads are clear of snow and the hiking trails are fully accessible.

By Car / Road
Aixas is reached via a narrow, winding mountain road (CS-142) branching off from the CG-6 highway near the village of Bixessarri. The drive from the parish capital of Sant Julià de Lòria is about 10 km (approximately 15–20 minutes) and requires navigating several hairpin turns. Road conditions are excellent in summer but can be challenging in winter, when snow chains or winter tires are mandatory. There are no public bus services running directly to Aixas; the nearest bus stop is in Bixessarri (3.5 km down the mountain).
Due to its tiny size, Aixas can only be explored on foot. The entire hamlet consists of a small cluster of houses and can be walked end-to-end in less than five minutes. For travel outside the village, a private vehicle, mountain bike, or taxi is necessary. Paved and unpaved trails connect the village to neighboring valleys and peak viewpoints.
