Escas
La Massana, Andorra
Why visit Escas?
Escas (officially spelled Escàs) is a tiny, traditional mountain village located within the parish of La Massana in northwestern Andorra. Situated at a high elevation of approximately 1,400 meters on the western slopes of the valley, Escas is a quiet residential enclave surrounded by dense pine forests and meadows. The village consists of classic stone-built Pyrenean chalets, slate roofs, and narrow winding paths, offering a highly authentic and tranquil mountain experience.
Historically, Escas was a pastoral hamlet used mainly for summer grazing and small-scale mountain farming. Over time, it has evolved into a peaceful residential village, popular with those who appreciate quiet mountain living while remaining close to the modern conveniences and outdoor recreation centers of La Massana parish.
The climate in Escas is typical of high-altitude alpine regions. Summers are brief but pleasant and sunny, with daytime temperatures averaging around 20°C, making it an excellent retreat from the heat of lower valleys. Winters are long, cold, and snowy, often beginning in late November and lasting through April, providing a beautiful winter wonderland setting.
