Erts

La Massana, Andorra

Why visit Erts?

Erts is a tiny rural village in La Massana parish, Andorra, set on the road between the parish capital and Arinsal at about 1,330 m. It is one of the seven historical quarts of La Massana, with a permanent population in the low hundreds. The character is residential and quiet — slate-roofed stone houses gathered around a small Romanesque parish chapel — and unlike its higher neighbour Arinsal, Erts has no ski-base buildings or resort strip of its own.

Most visitors pass through Erts en route between La Massana town and Arinsal, but the village is worth pausing for: it preserves a coherent traditional core, sits at a fine viewpoint over the Valira del Nord, and has access to walking routes up the wooded slopes toward Comapedrosa.

Best time to visit: late spring through early autumn for walking; quieter in winter when neighbouring Arinsal absorbs the ski crowds.

What are the things to do?

  • Església de Sant Romà d'Erts — Small Romanesque-origin parish chapel in the village. Free; irregular opening.

  • Traditional core of stone houses — Several well-preserved bordes and farmhouses, characteristic of the parish's vernacular style.

  • Viewpoints toward Comapedrosa — The village's terrace position gives fine views toward Andorra's highest peak.

  • Pont d'Erts — Small stone bridge over a side stream.

  • Walk the GR P-1 between La Massana and Arinsal — Erts is a natural stop, with shaded paths through pine and meadow.

  • Use as a quiet base for Vallnord skiing — 4 km up to the Arinsal cable car; free shuttle in season.

  • Photograph the village — Especially at golden hour with the Coma Pedrosa massif behind.
