Sidi Mezghiche

Skikda, Algeria

About Sidi Mezghiche

Sidi Mezghiche is a town in the interior of Skikda Province, northeastern Algeria, set in the hill country west of the provincial capital between the coast and the inland plains. It is an agricultural commune and local market town, surrounded by farmland and wooded slopes, and serves the everyday needs of the rural villages around it. Like many Algerian places, it takes its name from a local saint (sidi), reflecting the religious and rural fabric of the region.

For travellers, Sidi Mezghiche is not a destination in its own right but a window onto the green, hilly heart of the province — a quiet, rural counterpoint to the summer coast — and a waypoint on routes through the western interior toward Tamalous and the Collo peninsula. The surrounding country is given over to farming, with orchards and fields among the hills.

The climate is Mediterranean-influenced, with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters that keep the surrounding hills green into spring. Spring and autumn are the most pleasant times to visit; summer is hot and winter is wet.
