Fier County (Qarku i Fierit) is a key administrative subdivision situated in coastal western Albania, bordered by the Adriatic Sea to the west. The landscape of the county is dominated by the Myzeqe plain, one of the most productive agricultural regions in the country, and is crossed by major rivers such as the Seman and Vyosa. Strategically situated at a major transport bottleneck, the county serves as a vital corridor connecting Tirana and Durrës with the southern Albanian Riviera.
While the city of Fier itself is primarily a modern commercial hub, the wider county is a major tourism destination due to its concentration of archaeological parks and historical monuments. Ancient cities like Apollonia and Bylis, along with the scenic Ardenica Monastery, draw history enthusiasts, while the coastal wetlands of the Karavasta Lagoon attract nature lovers and birdwatchers from across Europe.
When to Visit
The best time to visit Fier County is during the spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October). During these months, the weather is warm and pleasant, ideal for outdoor exploration of archaeological parks like Apollonia and Bylis without the intense heat of the summer months. Summers (July and August) can be hot and dry, with temperatures often exceeding 35°C (95°F), making shade scarce at the ruins. The winter months are mild but bring the highest rainfall of the year.

WhatsAppGetting Around
Traveling between destinations within Fier County is primarily done via regional highways, notably the SH4, which runs north-south through the county. The SH4 connects Fier city with Lushnjë to the north and Vlorë to the south. Driving is the most convenient way to reach remote historical sites and national parks.
For public transport, the county relies heavily on intercity buses and furgons (minibuses). Buses from Tirana to Fier run every half hour (a 2-hour trip, departing from Rruga Rauf Nallbani), while minibuses connect Fier to Berat (1 hour 15 minutes, departing from Rruga Jani Bakalli) and Vlorë (30 minutes, departing from Rruga Ramiz Aranitasi). A new bus station is located 1.5 km from the city center, but local services are often decentralized and depart from various roundabouts around the city. Local commuter buses operate within Fier city and to nearby villages like Pojan (near Apollonia) for 30–40 lekë.
