Mhangura

Mashonaland West, Zimbabwe

Why visit Mhangura?

Mhangura is a former copper-mining town in northern Mashonaland West, approximately 60 km north of Chinhoyi. The Mhangura Copper Mine was once a significant operation employing thousands, but its closure in the early 2000s led to a dramatic population decline and economic downturn. The town today has a quiet, semi-abandoned character, with disused mine infrastructure, empty houses, and a much-reduced population. It stands as a poignant reminder of Zimbabwe's industrial rise and fall. Residual small-scale mining and farming sustain those who remain.
