Hat is one of the northern districts of Al Mahrah Governorate, bordering the Rub' al Khali (Empty Quarter) desert. It is among the most sparsely populated districts in Yemen, with a 2003 census population of under 3,000, made up of scattered Bedouin settlements across a remote inland desert landscape near the Omani border.
