Why visit Huong Tra?

Huong Tra is a district in Thua Thien-Hue province, situated north-west of Hue city along the Perfume River. It is a largely rural district known for its forested hills, pagodas, and the upstream reaches of the Perfume River. The district's name translates to "Perfume River" (Huong) and "Tea" (Tra), reflecting the agricultural character of the area — tea, rubber, and fruit orchards are the mainstays of the local economy. Huong Tra also has cultural significance as the site of several important Buddhist pagodas and the location of the first Nguyen dynasty capital at Ai Tu before it moved to Hue.

The terrain rises from the river plains in the east to the foothills of the Truong Son range in the west. The district has a tropical monsoon climate with heavy rainfall from September to December. The dry season runs from March to August, with temperatures averaging 25–34°C.
