Thuan Nam
Ninh Thuận, Viet Nam
Why visit Thuan Nam?
Thuan Nam (Thuận Nam) is the southernmost coastal district of Ninh Thuận province, bordering Binh Thuan province to the south. Established in 2009 from land formerly part of Ninh Phuoc district, it covers 563 km² and has a population of about 55,000. The district capital is Phước Nam town, located about 20 km south of Phan Rang-Thap Cham on National Highway 1A. Thuan Nam includes eight communes: Cà Ná, Phước Ninh, Phước Diêm, Phước Nam, Phước Minh, Phước Dinh, Nhị Hà, and Phước Hà.
The district's economy is driven by agriculture (rice, grape, dragon fruit) and industry — the Phước Nam Industrial Park is one of the province's three industrial zones. Thuan Nam's coastline includes Cà Ná Beach, a white-sand beach with rocky headlands that is one of the prettiest in Ninh Thuận. The district is sparsely populated and sees very few international tourists. The climate is the typical Ninh Thuận dry tropical pattern: hot and sunny year-round, with most rain between May and October.

Ask on WhatsAppHow do you get there?
By Plane
Cam Ranh International Airport (CXR, ~85 km north) is the nearest airport. A taxi from the airport to Phước Nam takes about 1.5 hr (~700,000 VND). Alternatively, fly to Ho Chi Minh City (SGN) and take a bus north (280 km, ~5 hr).
By Train
Phước Nam has no railway station. The nearest station is Thap Cham (~25 km north) on the Reunification Express line. From Thap Cham, local buses run south along QL1A.
By Car / Road
Thuan Nam is located on National Highway 1A. From Phan Rang-Thap Cham, Phước Nam is a 20-minute drive south. Buses on the Ho Chi Minh City–Phan Rang route stop in Thuan Nam. From HCMC, the journey is about 5 hours by bus.
The flat terrain along the highway corridor makes cycling and motorbiking straightforward. Grab coverage is very limited. Local buses ply QL1A connecting Thuan Nam's villages with Phan Rang. A motorbike is the best way to reach Cà Ná Beach and the coastal areas off the highway.
What are the things to do?
Cà Ná Beach — A beautiful white-sand beach with crystal-clear water and striking rocky headlands at the southern edge of Ninh Thuận. Far quieter than Ninh Chu Beach. Several seafood restaurants are set up along the shore.
Po Ro Me Cham Tower — Located at the boundary with Ninh Phuoc district, this 13th-century tower is accessible from Thuan Nam's northern villages. It is one of the most important surviving Cham monuments in southern Ninh Thuận.
Swim and relax at Cà Ná Beach — The main activity. Clean, uncrowded, and safe for swimming in calm weather.
Rural cycling — Quiet roads through vineyards and dragon fruit plantations make for pleasant cycling.
Visit the Phước Nam Industrial Park — Not a tourist attraction, but notable as a driver of the local economy. Photography of the surrounding landscape is fine from public roads.
Explore the coast — Several unnamed coves and rocky points south of Cà Ná are accessible by dirt tracks. Good for a picnic away from crowds.

Thuan Nam has no dedicated tourist accommodation. The nearest hotels and guesthouses are at Ninh Chu Beach in Ninh Hai district (~20 km north) or in Phan Rang-Thap Cham. Cà Ná Beach has a few very basic homestay rooms (~200,000–350,000 VND/night) but no formal hotels.
What should you buy?
The weekly market in Phước Nam sells local produce (grapes, dragon fruit, garlic, shallots) but there is no tourist-oriented shopping. Agricultural products are available directly from farms at good prices. Cà Ná has a few small stalls selling dried squid and seafood snacks.
Where to go next?
