Tay Son

Bình Định, Viet Nam

Why visit Tay Son?

Tay Son (Vietnamese: Tây Sơn) is a district in central Bình Định province, about 40 km northwest of Quy Nhon. It holds immense historical significance as the birthplace of the Tây Sơn rebellion (1771–1802), led by the three Tây Sơn brothers — Nguyễn Nhạc, Nguyễn Huệ (later Emperor Quang Trung), and Nguyễn Lữ. The district is named after this pivotal period in Vietnamese history.

Tây Sơn is a rural district of rolling hills, river valleys, and agricultural land. The district centre is the town of Phú Phong, situated along National Highway 19. Unlike coastal Bình Định, Tây Sơn is inland and has a slightly milder climate, with hot dry conditions from April to September, monsoon rains from September to December, and cooler weather from December to February.
