Guanta

Guanta is a coastal city and port in Anzoátegui state, located 12 km east of Puerto La Cruz on the Caribbean coast. Historically a fishing village and later a commercial port, it has developed into a secondary beach destination and the departure point for boat trips into Mochima National Park. The city sits on a sheltered bay with views of the offshore islands, and its port handles both commercial shipping and fishing fleets.

The climate is hot and tropical, averaging 27–33 °C year-round. The dry season (December–April) is the best time for island excursions. The wet season (May–November) brings afternoon showers but remains warm.

Guanta's centre clusters around the port area, with beaches stretching eastward along the coast. It is less developed than neighbouring Puerto La Cruz and Lechería, giving it a more laid-back, working waterfront character.

General José Antonio Anzoátegui International Airport (BLA) in Barcelona is 20 km west. Taxi to Guanta costs approximately USD 12–18.

By Car / Road

Guanta is 12 km east of Puerto La Cruz along the coastal highway. The drive from Caracas takes 4–5 hours (320 km). From the Puerto La Cruz bus terminal, a taxi to Guanta costs USD 3–5.

Guanta is walkable in the centre. Taxis and moto-taxis are available for short trips. Boats for Mochima National Park depart from the Guanta waterfront — this is a primary departure point for eastern park access.

Seafood dominates. Small eateries along the waterfront serve fresh fish prepared simply. Pescado frito (fried fish) with tostones is the standard meal. Mains USD 3–8.
