Dolynska
Kirovohradska oblast, Ukraine
Why visit Dolynska?
Dolynska is an industrial and railway junction in the southeastern part of Kirovohrad Oblast in central Ukraine. Founded in 1873 around a newly constructed station on the Znamianka–Mykolaiv railway line, the settlement was initially named Kefaline after the landowner who provided the territory for the railway. It was officially renamed Dolynska in 1944. During the 1980s, the town expanded significantly following the launch of the Kryvorizkyi Mining and Enrichment Plant of Oxidized Ores (KGOKOR), a massive international construction project intended to process iron ore from the Kryvbas deposit.
Today, Dolynska functions as a quiet regional hub situated amid open agricultural steppe. Travelers visit to explore regional history through its local museums, view the colossal architecture of the unfinished KGOKOR industrial complex, or make day trips to the nearby Veseli Bokovenky Dendrological Park.
The area experiences a temperate continental climate. Winters are cold and overcast with regular snowfall, while summers are warm and sunny with occasional rainfall during June and July.
