Kabale

Western, Uganda

Why visit Kabale?

Kabale is a scenic highland town in south-western Uganda, often called the "Switzerland of Uganda" due to its terraced hillsides and cool mountain climate at an elevation of approximately 2,000 m. It is the main gateway to Lake Bunyonyi (one of Africa's deepest lakes) and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. The surrounding Kigezi highlands are densely populated and intensely cultivated, with terraced fields covering every hillside.

The Bakiga people are the dominant ethnic group, and Rukiga is the local language alongside English. The town has a crisp, fresh atmosphere and is a popular stop for travellers on the gorilla safari circuit.
