Ayancık is a district town in Sinop Province, on the Black Sea coast about 55 km west of Sinop city. The population is around 13,000. Ayancık is known for its forested hinterland and timber industry, as well as its long sandy beach. The town has a relaxed coastal atmosphere.

The climate is humid subtropical with warm summers and cool, rainy winters. July and August are the main beach season.

Ayancık is on the D010 coastal highway. Minibuses connect to Sinop (1 hr) and Kastamonu (2 hr).
