Regular mikrolets and buses connect Same to Dili and other major towns. The road is winding mountain roads, sealed in parts but rough in sections, making the journey manageable in the dry season.

Simple local eateries (warungs) in Same serve Timorese staples — rice, grilled fish or chicken, vegetables, and the ever-present sweet coffee. The market usually has fresh local produce. Options are basic but satisfying. Expect simple, honest cooking rather than fine dining.

Accommodation in Same consists of small guesthouses and losmens (basic Timorese inns). Standards are basic but adequate — expect a simple room with a fan and shared bathroom. Hot water is not guaranteed. There are no major international hotel chains outside Dili.
What should you buy?
Local markets in Same sell fresh produce, traditional tais textiles, and daily necessities. For a wider selection of goods, shop early in the morning when markets are busiest. ATMs are limited, so bring sufficient cash.
