Rangsit
Pathum Thani, Thailand
Why visit Rangsit?
Rangsit (รังสิต) is a major exurb about 40 km north of Bangkok, functioning as a northern gateway to the capital. It is effectively a suburb of Bangkok, located 20 km from Don Mueang Airport on Phahonyothin Road. Rangsit has grown rapidly as a centre for education, retail, and transport, hosting over a dozen university campuses and some of the largest shopping malls in the metropolitan area. Its character is a blend of student energy, commuter bustle, and traditional Thai market life.
The climate follows the tropical savanna pattern of central Thailand: hot March–May, rainy June–October, and cooler November–February. The cool season is the most comfortable time to explore the area on foot.

By Plane
Don Mueang International Airport (DMK) is 20 km south, about a 20–30 minute taxi ride (200–300 baht by meter). Suvarnabhumi International Airport (BKK) is about 50 km away, accessible by taxi for around 380 baht by meter (touts may ask 1,000–1,500 baht; insist on the meter or use the official taxi queue). Bus 555 from Rangsit connects directly to Suvarnabhumi.
By Train
Rangsit is the northern terminus of the SRT Red Line commuter rail from Bang Sue. Most northbound long-distance trains to Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, and the northeast also stop here. The station has advance ticket sales for all Thai rail routes. Fare to Bangkok is about 9 baht for ordinary class.
By Car / Road
Rangsit sits on Phahonyothin Road (Highway 1), the main northward artery from Bangkok. Buses from Mo Chit terminal run frequently: local lines 29, 34, 39, 59, 95, 504, 510, and 522 (8 baht non-air-con, 18–22 baht air-con). The journey takes 30–60 minutes depending on traffic. Nearly all northbound and northeast-bound long-distance buses stop at Major Bowl Shopping Centre, making Rangsit a convenient hub for onward travel.
Songthaews and local buses connect Rangsit's scattered neighbourhoods. Taxis are plentiful and metered. For trips within the commercial core around Future Park and Major Bowl, walking is feasible though pavements can be uneven. Tuk-tuks are available for short hops; agree on the fare beforehand.
