Khlong Luang
Pathum Thani, Thailand
Why visit Khlong Luang?
Khlong Luang (คลองหลวง) is a district in Pathum Thani province, about 40 km north of Bangkok. Its name means "royal canal", a reference to the Khlong Rangsit irrigation canal built by King Rama V that transformed this once-forested lowland into fertile agricultural land. Historically part of the Bang Wai district under Mueang Thanyaburi, the area became a refuge for survivors of the 1767 fall of Ayutthaya. Today Khlong Luang is best known as an education and research corridor, hosting Thammasat University's Rangsit Campus, the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Bangkok University's Rangsit Campus, and the Thailand Science Park.
The district follows the tropical savanna climate of central Thailand: hot March–May, rainy June–October, and cool November–February. The cool season offers the most pleasant conditions for exploring the university campuses and nearby attractions.
