Lue Amnat
Amnat Charoen, Thailand
Why visit Lue Amnat?
Lue Amnat is a district (amphoe) in the southern part of Amnat Charoen Province, covering 191.8 km² with a population of about 36,900 (2005) — the most densely populated district in the province. It was established as a minor district on 1 April 1991 from six tambons split off from Mueang Amnat Charoen, upgraded to a full district on 5 December 1996, and was one of the districts forming the newly created Amnat Charoen Province in 1993.
The district seat is at Amnat sub-district. The name "Lue Amnat" translates roughly to "renowned power." Like much of the province, the economy is agricultural, with rice and rubber as the mainstays. The district borders Ubon Ratchathani Province to the south and east, serving as a gateway between the two provinces.
Lue Amnat is a quiet, entirely non-touristy district with no significant sights of its own, but it offers an authentic experience of rural Isaan life, local markets, and temple culture. Its small size and compact district centre make it a pleasant stop for travellers moving between Amnat Charoen and Ubon Ratchathani.
The best time to visit is November to February. March-May is very hot; the rainy season (June-October) brings regular downpours.
