Paje is Zanzibar's premier kite-surfing destination, a long, wide stretch of powdery white sand on the southeast coast with consistent trade winds (June–September). The village has a lively backpacker and watersports scene, with beach bars, budget guesthouses, and kite schools lining the shore.

How do you get there?

Paje is 45 km southeast of Stone Town (1 hour by dala-dala). Taxi from Stone Town costs TZS 60,000–80,000.

Walkable. The beach runs for 2 km. Boda-boda connect to Jambiani (5 km south).

What are the things to do?

  • Paje Beach — wide white sand, turquoise water, kite-surfers in the wind.

  • Paje Lagoon — exposed at low tide; good for wading and beachcombing.

  • Kite-surfing — multiple schools offer lessons (€50–80/hour). Best wind: June–September.

  • Snorkelling — reef trips by dhow to nearby islands.

  • Yoga — several hotels offer beach yoga classes.
