Why visit Lucao?

Lucao (鹿草) is a rural township in southwestern Chiayi County, Taiwan, situated on the flat coastal plain. The area is predominantly agricultural, with rice paddies and vegetable farms covering the landscape. Lucao has a quiet, traditional character with small villages and temples scattered across the farmland.

The climate is tropical monsoon with hot, humid summers and mild winters. October to March are the most pleasant months. The township has no large town centre, with services spread among several small communities.

How do you get there?

By Plane

Chiayi Airport (CYI) is about 25 km southeast. A taxi takes about 30 minutes and costs around NT$600–800.

By Train

Lucao does not have a TRA station. The nearest station is Shuishang Station, about 8 km east. From there, local buses connect to Lucao.

By Car / Road

Lucao is accessible via County Road 163 and Provincial Highway 19. From Chiayi City, drive southwest for about 25 minutes. Local buses run to Chiayi City.

A car or scooter is necessary for exploring this dispersed rural area. Bicycle hire may be available in nearby towns.
