Why visit Matugama?

Matugama is a town in the Kalutara District of Western Province, located about 55 km southeast of Colombo on the A4 highway (Ratnapura Road/Ayagama Road). It is an inland town surrounded by rubber, coconut, and tea plantations. Matugama serves as the administrative centre for the Matugama Divisional Secretariat and a commercial hub for the surrounding rural area.

The town is known for its scenic countryside setting, with low hills and lush vegetation. Matugama is not a tourist destination itself but is a peaceful rural town that travellers pass through on the route from Colombo to Ratnapura and the hill country.
