Wajaale

Awdal, Somalia

Why visit Wajaale?

Wajaale (Tog Wajaale) is Somaliland's busiest overland border crossing, split by the frontier with Ethiopia (whose side is called Togo Wuchale). It is the primary trade artery linking landlocked Ethiopia with the port of Berbera, carrying most of Somaliland's livestock exports to Ethiopia and imports — everything from consumer goods to khat — in the other direction. The town runs a bustling, largely informal cross-border market and is the main gateway travellers use when crossing overland between Somaliland and Ethiopia.
