Zeila

Awdal, Somalia

Why visit Zeila?

Zeila is an ancient port town on the Gulf of Aden in the Awdal region, near the Djibouti border. Once a major trading centre linking the Horn of Africa with Arabia and the Indian Ocean, Zeila has declined in importance but retains its historic character with ruined Ottoman and Portuguese structures, a coral-stone old town, and the offshore Zeila Archipelago — a group of small islands with pristine beaches and coral reefs.

The climate is hot and arid year-round. The coolest months are November to February.
