Chinatown
Central Singapore, Singapore
Why visit Chinatown?
Singapore's Chinatown is a historic district centred on Pagoda Street, Temple Street, and Smith Street. Unlike the Chinatowns of most global cities, Singapore's version is not an immigrant enclave but a planned ethnic quarter from the Raffles-era 1822 town plan, which assigned the area to Chinese settlers. Today it is a major tourist attraction, renowned for its beautifully conserved shophouses, the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, and its vibrant hawker culture.
Tropical climate year-round (27-33°C). The Chinese New Year period (Jan-Feb) is the busiest and most festive time.
