Bishan
Central Singapore, Singapore
Why visit Bishan?
Bishan is a mature residential estate in central Singapore, known for its lush greenery, extensive park connectors, and family-friendly atmosphere. The name Bishan means "crown" in Cantonese, reflecting its origins as a former Chinese burial hill that was redeveloped into a modern HDB town in the 1980s. Today it strikes a balance between urban convenience and green spaces — the Kallang River runs through its heart, and the Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park is one of Singapore's most celebrated water-sensitive urban design projects.
The area enjoys a tropical rainforest climate ( Köppen Af ) with warm temperatures year-round averaging 27°C. The northeast monsoon (Dec–Mar) brings heavier rain; the drier southwest monsoon (Jun–Sep) is a slightly more comfortable window. Bishan's layout is centred around Junction 8 shopping mall and the MRT station, with HDB precincts radiating outward.

By Plane
Changi Airport (SIN) is 18 km east. A taxi takes 20-30 min ($25-35). The MRT requires one transfer at Bishan MRT (NS17/CC15 — direct on the Circle Line from the airport via Expo, or via the North-South Line from city stations).
By Train
Bishan MRT station (NS17/CC15) is an interchange between the North-South and Circle Lines, giving direct access to Orchard (10 min), Marina Bay (15 min), and HarbourFront (20 min). There are no railway stations in Bishan itself — long-distance trains operate from Woodlands Train Checkpoint.
By Car / Road
Bishan is served by the Central Expressway (CTE) with exits at Bishan Road and Ang Mo Kio Avenue 1. Parking is ample at Junction 8 (shopping mall rates ~$1.50/h) and at HDB carparks.
Bishan is highly walkable — most neighbourhoods are within a 10-15 min walk of the MRT station. Bus services (e.g. 52, 54, 55, 56, 57, 58, 73, 88, 155, 156, 157, 410W) connect all precincts. Ride-hailing via Grab/Gojek is widely available; a short trip within the town costs $7-10.
