Rodney Bay

Gros Islet, Saint Lucia

Why visit Rodney Bay?

Rodney Bay is Saint Lucia's premier resort and entertainment district, a purpose-built tourist hub centred on a sheltered lagoon and marina on the island's northwest coast. The area encompasses Reduit Beach (one of the Caribbean's finest), a full-service marina, two shopping malls, dozens of restaurants, and a concentration of the island's largest hotels and all-inclusive resorts. With a permanent population of only a few hundred, Rodney Bay swells to thousands during peak season.

The area was developed from mangrove swampland in the 1980s and 1990s under a government-led tourism initiative. The Rodney Bay Marina, completed in the early 1990s, became a major yachting hub and catalysed the growth of waterfront restaurants, shops, and services. The result is a modern, well-planned resort zone that contrasts sharply with the traditional fishing villages and colonial towns elsewhere on the island.

Rodney Bay's appeal lies in its convenience and variety — visitors can spend the day on the beach, shop for duty-free goods, dine at international restaurants, and dance at a nightclub, all within a compact, walkable area. The climate is tropical (26–31°C year-round), with the dry season (December–May) being the most popular time to visit.
