Why visit?

Teleorman is a county in the Muntenia region of southern Romania, on the border with Bulgaria along the Danube, with its capital at Alexandria. Its name is of Cuman (Turkic) origin, meaning "wild forest." The north and center of the county lie on the Romanian Plain, cut by small rivers including the Vedea, Teleorman, and Călmățui, while the south is the wide Danube valley, marked by ponds and small channels. Agriculture — both large-scale grain farming and smaller-scale vegetable and fruit growing for the Bucharest market — is the county's main economic activity; it is one of Romania's more sparsely populated and predominantly rural counties.
