Why visit Moreni?

Moreni is a municipality in Dâmbovița County, Muntenia, in the eastern part of the county on the border with Prahova County. It lies 22 km east of Târgoviște and about 100 km north-west of Bucharest. Moreni is historically significant as the first place in Romania (and third in the world) where oil was extracted, beginning in 1861. The city grew around the petroleum industry, with English and Dutch engineers building the early oil rigs. Today, an industrial park has been developed to encourage investment. The local football club Flacăra Moreni, founded in 1922, plays at the 10,000-seat Flacăra Stadium.
